HOSTEL
HOSTEL NO. 1 (Thangjing Hostel)
The Thangjing Hostel is one of the Men’s
Hostels of Manipur University. Its foundation stone was laid down by Shri RK.
Dorendra Singh, Ex-CM of Manipur on 26th October 1980 and opened
on 7the February 1984 by Shri Nilamani Singh, Ex-VC in Charge, Manipur
University. The Hostel currently has the provision of accommodation of 165
students. The Manipur University, Thangjing Hostel ensures that students
belonging to different communities and coming from different and often far
places have a safe and secure place to stay. It provides a conductive
atmosphere for students to excel not only in academic pursuits but also in
extra-curricular activities.
The hostel is provided with a common mess as
well as sports and recreational facilities. The hostel provides hygienic
food with reasonable quality at well affordable mess fee. The hostel is
looking after by 12 staff members including Warden (1), Care Taker (2),
Securities (3), Mess helper (4), Sweeper (1) and Chawkidar (1) in this
hostel.
The hostel is providing a reading room, two
common rooms, a reading room with internet facility of five computer
terminals. The reading room has subscribed three leading national, eleven
local newspapers and Employment News.
HOSTEL NO. 2 (Koubru Hostel)
The Koubru Hostel (formerly known as Men’s
Hostel 2) was established in the year 2005. There are 55 rooms in this hostel.
Besides, the hostel has a Dining hall, a TV Hall, a Reading Room and a visitor’s
room. The total staff strength of the hostel is 8 (2 cooks, 3 mess helpers, 1
caretaker, 1 chowkidar, and a sweeper). Out of 8 staff member only 2 of them are
permanent and others are on contractual basis.
The hostel
conducts social services of the surrounding, picnic party, inter-hostel sports
meet and many other developmental and co curricular activities from time to
time. The total capacity of the hostel is 92, which are distributed as follows:

The University provides them with all the
facilities of good food, proper drinking water, a computer lab with three
computers with internet facilities, and sport materials for the welfare and over
all development of the boarders. It is at the utmost interest of the students
that the staff members, the university security team and the warden of the
hostel visit and interact with the boarders from time to time. In the year
2008-09, the total number of students admitted in this hostel was 56.
HOSTEL NO. 3 (Langmaiching Hostel)
- Physical Position: The hostel building is of three
stories each room is double seated.

Functioning style of the hostel and its
event: The
Warden is the leader/Authority to canalize all necessary official practical
and non-practical procedure in running the administrative activities. To
assist the Warden in all respects, the hostel has a Caretaker who put his
shoulder in running mess smoothly and all the mess staff. Further, the
Caretaker and the Chowkidar look after the electric and water in the hostel.

LADIES' HOSTEL
LADIES’ HOSTEL NO. 1
The Manipur University Ladies Hostel No-1 is the oldest
Ladies Hostel located inside the University Campus near the Canchipur
hillock. It is surrounded by the historical stream known as the Chandranadi.
It is situated near Canchipur palace gate constructed by Maharaja Gambhir
Singh.
The Manipur University, Ladies Hostel was established on 24th
July 1982. Its foundation stone was laid down by Late Shri Rajiv Gandhi,
the then Member of Parliament. Later on, in February 2001; the Hostel was
extended to accommodate more students.Hostel consists of two blocks, namely
New Block and Old Block. The rooms of the new block are double seated. It is
for the accommodation of newcomers. Whereas the old block is meant for
Research Scholars and Senior Students.

The ladies Hostel No-1 provides accommodation for 170
bonafied seats of this University. The seat allotment is provided as the
following:

The Hostel mess is run by the
hostellers and managed by the mess cooks assisted by 3 helpers under the
supervision of the warden. The hostel provides water supply and medicine.
The food is hygienic and the hostel provides at a reasonable quality at a
well affordable mess fee.
LADIES’ HOSTEL NO. 2
Manipur
University Ladies Hostel No. 2 was constructed on the western side of the bank
of the Chandranadi. It is three-storied building having well furnished double
seated 50 (fifty) rooms for students, one big dining hall, one Computer room and
one assembly hall.
One
Aqua guard drinking water is provided on each floor. One TV and two
Desktop Computers (with one internet facility for Warden Office) are
provided. The surrounding of the hostel has been lighted with electric
lamps.
Manipur
University Ladies Hostel was opened with a formal inauguration in July 2007.
Number of students was 33 ST, 15 SC, 45 OBC and 7 General.
Hostel Committee:
The Hostel Committee comprises 7 members: consisting of one
Research Scholar as Asstt. Warden and the rest from the
students.
One Badminton
Court in the campus, one small Ibudhou Pakhangba Shanglen (Temple) near the
Sanakhongnang (People tree) were constructed. A small pond is also attached near
the temple. University provided three Home Guard personnel as security guards.
