Manipur University, 16/2/2024: Report of the 9th Occasional Sociological Lecture: The Department of Sociology, Manipur University has been organizing a series of public lectures by eminent persons on sociologically relevant themes, and this academic endeavor has been called ‘Occasional Sociological Lecture’. As part of the series, Prof. Komol Singha, Professor of the Centre for Economic Studies & Planning, JNU, New Delhi delivered a lecture on “What went wrong in our Social Capital and institutions?” on Friday, 16 February 2024. In his talk, the speaker analysed the key roles of social capital and institutions in shaping the development trajectories by citing examples and cases from the states of North east India.
Dr. Yumlembam Khogen, Program Coordinator introduced the speaker, Prof. Kshetri Rajendra Singh, HoD, chaired the discussion session and Dr. Mayanglambam Lilee, Co-coordinator of the program delivered the vote of thanks. Around one hundred post-graduate students, research scholars and faculty members of the university participated in the lecture.
Manipur University, 9/12/2022: In accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Manipur University (MU), Imphal and University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) signed on 16th May, 2022; a week-long Faculty Exchange Programme was organized by the Department of Sociology, Manipur University in collaboration with the Department of Sociology, USTM on 28th November to 2nd December, 2022. As part of the week-long Faculty Exchange Programme, Dr. Sandeep Gupta, Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology, USTM delivered 10 (ten) invited lectures of one hour duration each. The host department expressed gratefulness to Dr. Sandeep Gupta for delivering lectures to our post-graduate students and Ph.D. scholars on various topics encompassing areas like classical Sociological theory, contemporary Sociological theory, Sociology of gender, and Sociology of health and illness on top of some interaction sessions with faculty members as well as Ph.D. scholars of the department during his visit.
Dr. Yumlembam Khogen, coordinator of the programme welcomed the visiting faculty during the inaugural session on 28th November, 2022 followed by visiting faculty’s introductory class for postgraduate students and Dr. M. Lilee Devi, co-coordinator of the programme delivered the vote of thanks in valedictory session highlighting the plan for future collaborative programs. Inaugural session, valedictory session and interaction sessions were chaired by Prof. Kshetri Rajendra Singh, Head, Department of Sociology, Manipur University.
