Underwent 3 months training on molecular techniques and molecular phylogenetic analysis in the Molecular Biology and Biotechnology Division, National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (NBFGR) Lucknow, India.

RESEARCH PROJECTS:

  • DBT Twinning Project  for 3 years on “DNA Barcoding and Domestication of Ornamental Fishes of the Chindwin and Barak-Surma Meghna River Basins of Northeast India”  in collaboration with Central Institute of Fishery Education (CIFE)-ICAR, Mumbai and CIFE-ICAR, Kolkata Centre, w.e.f. March, 2017.

FIELD EXPERIENCE:

  • Explorations in the wild uninhabited areas with rich ichthyofaunal diversity, trekking long distance in the mountains and hills with minimum requirements, camping for days and nights at stretch in the river banks.

SKILLS:

  • Use of electrofishing equipments and other traditional techniques for fish collection; habitat photography using DSLR cameras; Freshwater fish identification using morphological and anatomical characters;  Osteology of fishes; Single Cell Gel Electrophoresis (Comet Assay); Micronucleus Assay (MN Assay); DNA isolation; PCR amplification;  Gel electrophoresis;  Quality and Quantity assessment of DNA using spectrophotometer, UV transilluminator, gel documentation system; sequence editing using ClustalW; NTSYSpc Version 2.2 (Numerical Taxonomy and Multivariate Analysis System) software for cluster analysis; MEGA5 (Molecular Evolutionary Genetics Analysis) software for pairwise evolutionary distance calculation among haplotypes; Neighbor-Joining, Maximum Parsimony (MP) and maximum likelihood (ML) methods for phylogenetic analysis.
