Manipur University, 20/05/2022: A collaborative 2-Day Workshop on “Research Ethics” was inaugurated today. The workshop is being jointly organized by the Department of Sociology, Manipur University and Dept. of Sociology, University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) in blended mode. The workshop is being held on 20-21 May 2022. This is the first collaborative academic endeavour after the recently signed MoU between Manipur University and the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya.
PROF. GD SHARMA, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of USTM and PROF. N LOKENDRA SINGH, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University graced the inaugural function as the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively. In his inaugural address as the Guest of Honour, PROF. N LOKENDRA SINGH highlighted the central importance of ethical code and conducts in scientific research and also reiterated the recent efforts of the UGC to improve the credibility of academic research and fight against predatory journals.
Prof. Chandan Kumar Sharma, Deptt. of Sociology, Tejpur University, Assam delivered the ‘Key Note Speech’ and he explained the paramount importance of cultural specific ethics, universal ethics and professional ethics and elaborately deliberated on how to do ethically sound research, writing and publication. In the first technical session, Prof. Rajendra Kshetri, Head, Dept. of Sociology, Manipur University delivered a lecture on the “Ethical Dilemma in Field Work” and Prof. S. Jibonkumar Singh, Head, Department of Anthropology and Chairman, Institutional Human Ethics Committee, Manipur University talked on ethics in research from the perspectives of bio-social research. Conveners of the workshop Dr Yumlembam Khogen (Manipur University) and Dr Yelem Priyambada (USTM) informed that on the second day of the workshop, resource persons namely Prof. Temjensosang of Nagaland University and Dr Sandeep Gupta of USTM will give deliberations on various dimensions of research ethics.
