Manipur University, 2/11/2022: 3-Days National Workshop on “e-Granthalaya 4.0 and Automation and Networking of Libraries” has successfully been conducted at the ICT-Lab of the Department of Library and Information Science, Manipur University during 31st October - 2nd November 2022 jointly organised by the Department of Library & Information Science, Manipur University, Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretariat, Imphal and National Informatics Centre, Government of India, New Delhi. The workshop inaugurated by Prof. Elangbam Bijoykumar Singh, Director, Centre for Study of Social Exclusive & Inclusive Policy as Chief Guest was attended by Shri Karam Meghajit Singh, Secretary, Manipur Legislative Assembly as President, Shri Ram Kumar Matoria, Scientist-F, NIC, New Delhi and Shri N. Binod Singh, State Informatics Officer, NIC Manipur State Centre as the Guests of Honour respectively. While welcoming all the dignitaries, invitees, media persons and participants, the Programme Coordinator of the National Workshop Dr. Ch. Ibohal Singh, Professor and HoD, Library and Information Science, Manipur University highlighted the need and significance of the workshop and features of the Cloud-based Integrated Library Management Software, e-Granthalaya 4.0 and the applicability of the same in transforming Government libraries for their sustainability in years to come. Shri Ram Kumar Matoria as Guest of Honour, spoke on “e-Granthalaya : A Digital Agenda “and Shri N. Binod Singh on “Role of NIC Manipur in e-Granthalaya”. Smt. L. Reena Devi of Manipur Legislative Assembly Library also briefly gave the Inaugural Address. In hisaddress, the Chief Guest, Prof. Bijoykumar Singh, lamented the need for automation and networking of libraries for sustainable development with the use of sophisticated software like e-Granthalaya 4.0. He also lauded the organizing team for timely conducting such valuable National Workshop in Manipur University thereby taking an initiative to transform library systems of Manipur. In his presidential address Shri K. Meghajit Singh, Secretary, Manipur Legislative Assembly, Imphal expressed his happiness for organizing the workshop and appealed the library professionals of the state to play crucial role in modernising library systems with technological interventions. The Inaugural session was concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Shri Thangjam Ghaneshwar, Scientist-E, NIC, Manipur State Centre, Imphal.
In the 3-days workshop, Experts from NIC took different theoretical and practical sessions and participants were given hands-on-training sufficiently. Altogether 45 Library professionals from different central and state government departments such as MU, RIMS, NVS, KVS, Sainik School, JNMDA, Art and Culture, NIELIT, Manipur Legislative Assembly, National Sports University, High Court of Manipur, Government Polytechnic, DMC of Science, College of Nursing of Medical Directorate, etc. attended the workshop successfully. They have been issued Certificate of Participation during the Valedictory Function of the Workshop held on 2 nd November 2022. In which Prof. Th. Purnima Devi, Director, Centre for Human Rights and Duties Education, Manipur University, attended as Chief Guest.
