Manipur University, 21 February 2025 – The UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre, Manipur University (UGC-MMTTC-MU), organized a six-day short-term programme on “Managerial Skill Development for Professional Excellence of Officers and Faculty Members of Higher Education Institutions” from 21st to 27th February 2025 at Manipur University.
The inaugural function was presided over by Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University. In his address, Prof. Lokendra Singh emphasized that governance in higher education institutions is mandated by regulatory bodies, and no institution can alter these regulations. He urged the participants to understand institutional norms, regulations, and the penalty system. He also stated that while universities have the autonomy to develop academic frameworks, including curriculum design and implementation, they must adhere to the guidelines set by regulatory bodies.
Dr. R.K. Lenin Singh, Professor, Department of Psychiatry, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, attended the event as the Chief Guest. He stressed the importance of managerial skills in today’s competitive work environment and highlighted the benefits of interdisciplinary collaboration in achieving excellence. Dr. Lenin Singh also conducted a session on “Stress Management for Professional Excellence”, offering insights into strategies for overcoming stress in both personal and professional life.
In his welcome address, Prof. Ch. Ibohal Meitei, Director, Research and Development Cell, Manipur University, emphasized the need for continuous enhancement of teaching and managerial skills in response to rapid technological advancements. He highlighted that UGC-MMTTC offers training programs designed to equip faculty members and academicians with new skill sets, communication strategies, and crisis management techniques for more effective institutional administration.
Speaking as the Guest of Honour, Prof. R.K. Bhubon Singh, Director, UGC-MMTTC, Manipur University, elaborated on the core principles of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He noted that NEP-2020 aims to reshape the education sector by adapting to post-pandemic changes and leveraging technological advancements. He underscored the importance of managerial skills in higher education institutions, emphasizing their role in enhancing decision-making, fostering innovation, mobilizing resources, and managing institutional challenges.
