Manipur University, 19/2/2024: Department of Forestry and Environmental Science, Manipur University, organized a Campus Bird Count (CBC) as a part of Great Backyard Bird Count(GBBC), India, on 19th February 2024 from 7:30-10:30 am. Thirty-nine participants from various departments of Manipur University took part in the program. The program was coordinated by Dr. Vivek Vaishnav, Dr. Khwairakpam Romesh Singh, and invited wildlife expert Mr. Elangbam Premjit Singh. The program was well organized, with sporadic surveys of the university campus by three teams of students under the guidance of faculties/experts. A total of twenty-three bird species were observed. Some common species are the red-vented bulbul, Eurasian tree sparrow, spotted dove, common Myna, barn swallow, and oriental magpie robin. Two checklists of birds were submitted to eBird India (https://ebird.org).
The program was a great success in enlightening the students about the habitat and ecology of the avian diversity of the Manipur University campus. At the end, refreshment was offered to all by the department.
