Household Survey and Adult Literacy classes at Ningomthong Kitna Panung
Date 31/05/2019: Department of Adult Contunuing Education and Extension, Manipur University in convergence with the Department of Adult Education, Government of Manipur have conducted the household survey at Ningomthong Kitna Panung, Imphal East. As a part of curricular activity of M.A.(Adult Education), the M.A.(Adult Education) 2nd Semester conducted the survey. The Field Work is mainly to practice the Actual Teaching-Learning process beside the learning confined within the four walled classroom. Field work also serves the third dimension of the University-Extension. The Department adopt Ningomthong Kitna Panung as their field Work Place after meeting and agreements of nutual understanding and co-operation with the Executive members of Community Recreation Centre Cum Library (CRCL), Ningomthong.

During the survey, it is found that the said locality consists of 256 households and 93 adults were illeterate. Within the locality, the department identified 8 place as the study centre, so that the adult learner can learn at the near place to their convinience. The main objective of adult literacy are
to provide functional literacy (reading, writing and numeracy) for adults who have never had the advantage to eny formal education;
to provide functional remedial education for those young people who prematurely dropped out of the formal school system;
to provide vocational traning for different categories of workers in order to improve their skills; and
to give the adult ciigen of the country the necessary aesthetic, cultural and civic education for public enlightenment.
The duration of the field work is 45 days and have been supervised by three faculty of the said department.
The household survey have been concluded day before yesterday. And Adult literacy classes started from today onwards. Dr. Rajkumar Suresh Singh (Head of Department, Adult Contunuing Education and Extension) stated that for the first time Meitei Mayek has been introduced as one of the language in the learning process besides Manipuri (Bengali script) and English (Roman script) on the demand from the prospective adult learners. Local club members(CRCL) and meira paibi extended their posible help and support in organising the field work. The Field Work is scheduled to conclude on 30th June 2019.
