Manipur University, 3 February 2025 – The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Manipur, Shri N. Biren Singh, inaugurated and laid the foundation for several key facilities at Manipur University, Canchipur, on 3 February 2025, marking a significant step towards enhancing the university’s academic and infrastructural development.
During the event, Shri N. Biren Singh inaugurated the newly installed Open Gym and the Art & Culture Building. He also laid the foundation for the construction of a Swimming Pool and the setup of a 33/11 KV Power Substation within the university campus.
Addressing the gathering as the Chief Guest, Shri N. Biren Singh reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting the university’s development initiatives. He emphasized that modern amenities such as an Open Gym and a Swimming Pool are essential for the physical and mental well-being of students and faculty. Expressing his interest in engaging with students and faculty on the ongoing conflict in Manipur, he urged academia to take an active role in fostering peace and stability in the state.
The function was presided over by Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University. In his presidential address, Prof. Lokendra Singh expressed his deep gratitude to Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and his Cabinet Ministers for their unwavering support in the development of the university. He acknowledged the Chief Minister’s active involvement in MU’s growth, particularly in advancing infrastructure and academic excellence.
Highlighting the university’s achievements, Prof. N. Lokendra Singh noted that MU has successfully implemented the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020), bringing greater flexibility to the curriculum and promoting multidisciplinary research and teaching methodologies. He also pointed out a significant increase in student enrolment, academic programs, and affiliated colleges, attributing these accomplishments to the support from both the State and Central Government.
Speaking as the Guest of Honour, Shri Th. Biswajit Singh, Minister for Power, Forest, Environment & Climate Change, Agriculture, and Science & Technology, emphasized that infrastructure, manpower, and financial resources are crucial for institutional growth. He underscored the importance of establishing power substations within the university, stating that education and infrastructure are the backbone of a prosperous Manipur and a stronger nation.
Shri Karam Shyam, MLA, Langthabal Assembly Constituency, also addressed the gathering as a Guest of Honour, expressing his pride in MU’s contributions to producing skilled graduates. He highlighted the significance of Manipur University, as it falls within his constituency, and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting its growth.
In his welcome address, Prof. W. Chandbabu Singh, Registrar, MU, extended his heartfelt gratitude to the distinguished guests, students, and attendees. He emphasized that the event marks a major step forward in MU’s infrastructural development, which will further strengthen its position as a leading educational institution.
During the program, Ksh. Narayana, President, MUTA, and Nongthombam Suraj Singh, President, MUSU, conveyed their sincere appreciation to Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and his Ministers for prioritizing MU’s development projects. They acknowledged the government’s role in transforming the university and encouraged students to excel academically and bring laurels to the university and the state.
