Manipur University, 20/3/2024: The Department of Sociology, Manipur University, organized an observance of the International Day of Happiness 2024. The event took place on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, within the premises of the Department of Sociology.
The event was attended by esteemed guests, faculty members, students, and staff from various departments of the university. Notable attendees included Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, the Vice Chancellor of Manipur University, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Additionally, Prof. Thoidingjam Purnima Devi, the Dean of the School of Social Sciences, honored the event as the Guest of Honour. The function was marked by the presence of Prof. R.K. Lenin Singh from the Department of Psychiatry at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal, as the Guest of Honour cum resource person.
The inaugural program commenced with a welcome address followed by speeches from the presidium members. Chief Guest Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, the Vice Chancellor of Manipur University, emphasized on the inner and outer milieu of happiness and linked it with various indices of happiness. Prof. Thoidingjam Purnima Devi, in her speech, advised starting the day with prayer and meditation to make the day a happy one. Dr. Mayanglambam Lilee, the Associate Professor & Head of the Department of Sociology, in her presidential speech, highlighted the origin and significance of the International Day of Happiness.
In the technical session, Prof. R.K. Lenin Singh from the Department of Psychiatry, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal, delivered a special lecture on “Happiness: An Achievable Goal” followed by a question and answer session. Prof. R.K. Lenin's expertise in mental well-being added depth to the discourse on happiness. The invited speaker revealed the secrets of the happiest countries around the world and suggested small acts and strategies to enhance happiness with elusive examples considering the socio-cultural context of Manipur.
The observance of the International Day of Happiness 2024 at Manipur University provided a platform for meaningful dialogue and reflection on the pursuit of happiness in society. The event underscored the university's commitment to holistic education and its role in nurturing well-being among its stakeholders.
