Manipur University, 31/10/2024: The National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell, Fit India Campaign Committee (FICC), and Fit India Club (FIC) of Manipur University, Canchipur, organized “National Unity Day (Rashtriya Ekta Diwas)” on the theme "Unity and Integrity" as part of the Fit India Movement. The event was held today, October 31, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. in the Court Hall of Manipur University, Canchipur. Distinguished dignitaries included Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University, as Chief Guest; Shri T. Phulen Meitei, State Nodal Officer (NSS) and Director of Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS), as Guest of Honour; Dr. Laishram Santosh Singh, Programme Coordinator of the NSS Cell, MU, as Guest of Honour; and Prof. M. Premjit Singh, Chairman of FICC, FIC, and Dean of Students Welfare, as President.
The program began with a floral tribute to the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, whose birth anniversary is celebrated as National Unity Day. An oath-taking ceremony, led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, further underscored the commitment to unity, integrity, and patriotism among the attendees.
A painting competition, held at Dr. Kamal Indoor Hall, saw enthusiastic participation from around 88 students from classes 6 to 12 across Manipur. The winners were Brikrama Lourembam (Class VIII, The Comprehensive School, Oinam) in 1st place, Haobijam Anamika Chanu (Class IX, Ningthoukhong Hr. Sec. School) in 2nd place, and Khundrakpam Chinglemba (Class VI, SL Arena of Learning) in 3rd place.
Dr. Laishram Santosh Singh, Programme Coordinator of the NSS Cell, MU, welcomed all dignitaries, guests, NSS program officers, and volunteers, emphasizing the significance of National Unity Day and the painting competition’s role in fostering creativity and unity among youth.
Guest of Honour Shri T. Phulen Meitei highlighted the power of a young, positive mindset for both personal and societal growth, remarking, “Positive thinking is essential for managing stress and health.” He encouraged active participation in community events as a means to build resilience, social support, and mental well-being.
Chief Guest Prof. N. Lokendra Singh spoke passionately about the historical significance of National Unity Day, celebrating Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's legacy in uniting over 560 princely states and forging a unified India. He stressed the need to uphold Patel's vision of a cohesive, diverse nation.
President Prof. M. Premjit Singh reflected on the importance of unity in addressing societal challenges. He urged everyone to draw inspiration from Patel’s legacy, fostering collaboration, peace, and progress within Manipur.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. H. Suraj Singh, NSS Programme Officer, who expressed gratitude to all participants, guests, and volunteers for their contributions to the successful celebration.
