Manipur University, 08-02-2025: The National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell of Manipur University organized a One-Day NSS Orientation Programme at the Court Hall as part of the Swachhata (Cleanliness) Programme. The event, which commenced at 10:30 a.m., was attended by distinguished guests and enthusiastic participants.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University, as the Chief Guest, along with Shri Nakul Chandra Deori, Senior Youth Officer, NSS NER, Guwahati, Assam, and Shri L. Marjitkumar Singh, State Director of NYKS, Manipur, as Guests of Honour. Dr. Laishram Santosh Singh, Programme Coordinator of the NSS Cell, Manipur University, presided over the inaugural function.
The programme began with the lighting of the traditional lamp, followed by the NSS song. In his welcome address, Dr. Laishram Santosh Singh highlighted the importance of the event in promoting NSS activities and fostering collaboration among NSS Programme Officers. He also emphasized the significance of the Swachhata Programme, focusing on cleanliness, sanitation, and hygiene as essential aspects of a healthy life and environment.
Delivering a keynote address, Shri Nakul Chandra Deori elaborated on the role of NSS in educational institutions, stressing the need to integrate NSS activities across schools, colleges, and universities to instill a sense of responsibility and service among students.
Shri L. Marjitkumar Singh discussed the collaboration between NYKS and NSS, introducing the MyBharat Portal and urging NSS volunteers and officers to register on the platform to align with national youth programs more effectively.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, the Chief Guest, spoke about the transformative impact of NSS in shaping students’ personalities through community service. He emphasized that NSS should be regarded as a core curricular activity in higher education and encouraged the establishment of NSS units in more colleges, including private institutions, to maximize student engagement and benefits.
