Manipur University, 21/06/2022: The 8th International Day of Yoga was celebrated today, the 21st of June 2022 at Loktak Lake, Manipur as one of the 75 heritage and iconic sites across the country under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. The theme of this year’s yoga day celebration is “Yoga for Humanity”. The responsibility for holding the international day of yoga was handed over to Manipur Central University by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
The main highlights of the observation were witnessing the speech of Prime Minister Narendra Modi live streaming from Mysore followed by a yoga demonstration at the two different venues of Loktak boating centre. In his remarkable statement, the Hon’ble Prime Minister mentioned the need for yoga for mental peace and physical well-being.
The celebration was started with a formal function led by Shri B.L. Verma, Hon’ble Minister of State, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DONER), and Ministry of Cooperation. Govt. of India as the Chief Guest. Prof. N. Lokendro Singh, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University on behalf of the entire Manipur University Community and the Organising committee extended a warm and heartiest welcome to all the dignitaries and participants of the 8th International day of yoga celebrated in observance of the 75 years of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Prof. W. Chandbabu Singh, Registrar, Manipur University, in his introductory remark narrated the importance of the International Day of Yoga and thanked the Union Government for selecting the Loktak Lake as one of the 75 iconic places and also entrusting the Manipur University for organizing such an important function.
The observation was attended by Shri T. Ronindro Singh, Hon’ble MLA Thanga A/C, and Shri P.P Gupta, Director, Ministry of Education, Govt. of India.
The entire function was live-streamed at the website of the Ministry of Education and the Official YouTube Channel of the Manipur University covering the event and showing the mesmerizing picturesque of Loktak lake.
It was also attended by more than 500 participants including students from the University, colleges, and various schools. Faculties and officials of the Manipur University, officials of the State Governments, paramilitary personnel, and print and electronic media have also attended.
The celebration ended with the singing of the national anthem by the participants.
