MANIPUR UNIVERSITY, 15/3/2024: The Department of Commerce at Manipur University, Canchipur, commemorated World Consumer Rights Day 2024 at its Conference Hall. The event, themed "Fair and Responsible AI for Consumers," was graced by esteemed dignitaries including Shri Gourav Kumar from RBI, Shri Tejmani Sinam from the Dept. of Computer Science, Prof. L. Prabhakar Singh from MIMS, and Prof. N. Tejmani Singh from the Dept. of Commerce, who served as Presidium Members.
During the event, Shri Gourav Kumar emphasized the importance of consumer education, especially in banking services, to combat prevalent financial frauds. He discussed various fraud techniques like phishing, vishing, ATM card skimming, etc., urging consumers to stay vigilant.
Prof. Tejmani Sinam delivered a lecture on "Fair and Responsible AI for Consumers," highlighting AI's growing presence in everyday life and its implications for consumers. Prof. L. Prabhakar Singh stressed the need for consumers to be informed and cautious, emphasizing the significance of the Consumer Protection Act.
Prof. N. Tejmani Singh underscored the sophistication of fraudsters and the necessity for consumers to stay updated on their rights and protective measures. He advocated for financial literacy and consumer rights education in academic institutions.
The event concluded with a welcome address by Prof. A. Rajmani Singh and a vote of thanks from Dr. Ksh. Ranjan Singh. Attendees included faculty, research scholars, and students of M.Com. 1st and 3rd semesters.
