Manipur University, 8 April, 2025: The College Development Council (CDC), Manipur University (MU) organized an interactive session with principal of colleges, Registrar of universities; and university campus directors on Implementation Status of NEP 2020 on 8thApril 2025 at Court Hall, Vice-Chancellor’s Secretariat, Manipur University, with an objective to address issues and challenges in implementation of National Education Policy NEP 2020.

The interaction programme was attended by Manipur University Vice-Chancellor Prof. N. Lokendra Singh as chief guest; Registrar (In-charge), MU, Prof. Th. Binoy Singh as a committee member; Organizing Secretary of Vidya Bharati Uchcha Shiksha Sansthan, Shri K N Raghuananda as special invitee; Dean, School of Mathematics and Physical Sciences, Prof. Sumitra Phanjoubam and Dean of Human and Environmental Science Prof. S. Jibonkumar Singh as guest speaker. Meanwhile, Prof. Manish R. Joshi, Secretary, University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi joined as guest speaker through online mode.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Lokendra Singh stated the university has successfully implemented NEP 2020 since the 2021-2022 academic year. Highlighting the present challenges in implementation of fourth year undergraduate honours with research programmes, he encouraged the principals and other stakeholders to bring various mechanisms in addressing the issue due to its sensitivity which required tactful and consideration.

Highlighting the significance of NEP 2020, Prof. Manish R. Joshi stated that the purpose of new education policy is based on freedom, flexibility and choice, enabling students multiple exit and entry, providing more flexibility to students based on their capability, skills, knowledge and performance, and enabling students to opt for accelerated degree programmes. He stated that NEP 2020 brings an amalgamation of best practices in education, fostering skills enhancement, ensuring employability of students through online courses, apprenticeships, and outreach programmes. 

Meanwhile, Shri K N Raghuananda urged the college principals, faculty members and authorities of higher education institutions to  address the challenges collectively in implementation of NEP 2020 and encouraged collaborations between institutes to facilitate equipment, enabling various institutes to work together to resolve challenges. 

The respective in-charges of under-graduate and post-graduate committees on implementation of NEP 2020 Prof. S. Jibonkumar Singh and Prof. Sumitra Phanjoubam, highlighted  that a series of workshops, seminars, interactive sessions have been conducted to address issues and challenges in implementation of NEP 2020 with the authorities of various universities in Manipur. They encouraged senior faculty members and professors to put forward mechanisms to implement the fourth year of NEP 2020 amidst the challenges.

 During the event, a book on ‘The Bamons of Manipur: History, Culture and Society’ jointly authored by Bachaspatimayum Devdutta Sharma and Naorem Lokendra Singh was released. The book is a compilation of research work based on the brahmins of Manipur and its contribution in history and culture of the state. 

 Prof. Th. Binoy Singh delivered a welcome address, highlighting the significance of understanding challenges in implementation of NEP 2020. Prof. Sukhdev Hanjabam, Director, CDC, Manipur proposed a vote of thanks, expressing his heartfelt gratitude to all the delegates for the participation. The interactive session provided a platform for all educationists, particularly the Principals of various colleges and authorities of the university to interact and deliberate on the challenges in implementation of the fourth year undergraduate programme, aligned with NEP 2020, bringing a collective resolution way forward.
