Manipur University, 21/2/2025: Students for Development (SFD), Manipur, in collaboration with the Department of Forestry, Manipur University, observed International Mother Language Day on 21st February 2025, promoting the campaign “My Signature in My Language.” The event aimed to celebrate Manipur's linguistic and cultural diversity while fostering a deeper connection to the mother tongue.
Manipuri Lon (Meiteilon), a state language included in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India, is one of the world’s rare languages with its own script, ‘Manipuri Mayek.’ It is the only language from Northeast India with an indigenous script, marking a significant scientific and cultural achievement for the region.
The campaign witnessed active participation from a large number of university students. The event was coordinated by Ms. Brahmacharimayum Amrita Sharma (M.Sc. Forestry, 4th Semester, 2023-25 batch), under the guidance of Dr. Loushambam Romeechand Singh, and was strongly supported by members of SFD, Manipur.
