As a Part of the Fit India Movement, the Fit India Campaign Committee, Fit India Club, Department of PESS and NSS Cell, Manipur University, Canchipur under the aegis of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India have jointly organized an “Observance of National Sports Day” on 29th August 2020 8:00 A.M. at Traffic Point, MU, Canchipur with Presidium Members Shri Jarnail Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University; Prof. R A S Kushwaha, Dean, School of Human and Environmental Sciences; Prof. Ch. Yashawanta Singh, Dean, School of Humanities; Prof. Th. Ratankumar Singh, Dean, Students Welfare, Manipur University cum Chairman, Fit India Club.
A team of cyclists from Manipur Adventure and Mountain Biking Association (MAMBA) under the leadership of Dr. Nepram Sanjib Singh, Deputy Superintendent, RIMS has also attended the Observance and took part in the Cycle Rally as a part of Fit India Freedom Run. At the beginning of the observance programme, a floral tribute has been given to the Hockey Legend Major Diyan Chand as National Sports Day is being observed on his birthday. Along with the Observance, the Twelve Days campaign for Fit India Freedom Run has also been flagged off from the Traffic Point, MU, Canchipur. All the participants have participated in the Fit India Freedom Run organized inside the university campus and the Cycle Rally. Shri Jarnail Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University himself also took part in the Fit India Freedom Run and the Cycle Rally.
Dr. L. Santosh Singh, convenor, FICC and FIC, MU, Canchipur welcomed all the dignitaries and invitees. He highlighted the theme of the campaign and the importance of observing National Sports Day and organizing the Twelve Days campaign for Fit India Freedom Run.
Prof. T. Inaobi Singh, Head, Department of Physical Education and Sports Science, Manipur University, Canchipur has delivered the keynote address for the programme.
Shri Jarnail Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University, Canchipur as Presidium Member of the Observation Programme expressed the importance of keeping fit both the body and mind in our lives. He also emphasized that in order to save the loss of time in visiting hospitals and health expenditures incurred, one should invest in the fitness of body and mind.
Prof. R A S Kushwaha, Dean, School of Human and Environmental Sciences, Manipur University expressed that the Observation of National Sports Day will certainly enhance the spirit of sportsmanship in our country.
Prof. Ch. Yashawanta Singh, Dean, School of Humanities opined that fitness is becoming a primary activity of a person in his daily lifestyle. The role of sportsmen in every walk of life in the present world has been appreciated with the remembrance of Major Diyan Chand as an exemplary sportsman in the country.
Prof. Th. Ratankumar Singh, Dean, Students Welfare, Manipur University cum Chairman, Fit India Club also expressed the importance of running exercise in human life and said that it should be for one day, but to be continued throughout life.
