Manipur University, 31/3/2024: The National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell at Manipur University successfully organized a One-Day State-Level Swachhata Camp and Voter Awareness Drive in celebration of 'My First Vote For The Country' at the Traffic Island and Auditorium of Manipur University. The program commenced with the Swachhata Campaign at 7 AM on March 31st, 2024, led by Prof. Oinam Ranjit Singh, HOD, Department of Ancient History and Archaeology, Prof. Ch. Ibohal Singh, HOD, Department of Library and Information Science, MU, and Dr. Maibam Nodiyachand Singh, NSS Cell Coordinator, Manipur University, along with volunteers and Program Officers from various colleges affiliated with MU, who actively participated in the cleaning drive.
The second part of the program, the Voter Awareness Drive, was organized at the Auditorium, MU, at 10 AM. Shree Nakul Chandra Deori, Youth Officer, NSS, NER Guwahati, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India, graced the event as the Chief Guest. Dr. Yumnam Premananda Singh, HOD, Department of Law, MU, was the Guest of Honour, and Dr. Maibam Nodiyachand Singh, NSS Cell Coordinator, presided over the function.
Dr. Premananda emphasized the pivotal role of youth in elections, highlighting the criteria for selecting the best candidate. The Chief Guest stressed the importance of Swachhata and Voter awareness among youths, advocating for a healthy and clean society. Dr. Nodiyachand elaborated on the necessity of selecting the best candidate for the upcoming MP elections and the need for adequate staffing at the SNO office, urging the state government to deploy essential personnel funded by the Central Government.
Dr. Sonia Ningthoujam, Programme Officer (PO), Imphal College, delivered the welcome address, while Dr. L. Ladhoni Devi, PO, Biramangol College, extended the Vote of Thanks. The event witnessed the participation of around three hundred volunteers and twenty Programme Officers from Manipur University and its affiliated colleges, signifying a collective effort towards societal development and progress.
