Manipur Univerity, 21st January 2025: – The Department of Forestry, School of Agricultural Sciences, Manipur University, organized a one-day training program titled “Field Expedition-cum-Training to Assess Ecosystem Service Potential of Urban Trees for Choosing the Right Species for Urban Landscapes”. This training, focused on urban forestry, was conducted for the students of the department.
The resource person, Prof. Sabyasachi Dasgupta from the Department of Forestry & Biodiversity, Tripura University, provided a detailed step-by-step protocol for collecting individual tree data to assess its suitability for reducing noise and air pollution.
Session 1: After the demonstration by the resource person, six teams of students observed and measured trees within the fort area using the provided datasheets. Students were also trained to collect data on the microhabitat suitability of trees to support various lifeforms.
Session 2: Prof. Sabyasachi Dasgupta evaluated the datasheets submitted by the students and provided valuable suggestions on data-cleaning techniques and follow-up procedures for analyzing the collected data after verification.
Session 3: To address flaws in the students' field skills and data collection, the students repeated their measurements under the supervision of the faculty members, ensuring accurate data collection.
The program was attended by 45 students and scholars under the guidance of the faculty and scholars of the department.
