Manipur University, 17/02/2023: Korean Language at the Department of Foreign Languages organized a Scholarship distribution ceremony at Korea Corner today (i.e., 17/02/2023). The Scholarship was sponsored by Shinhan Financial Group Hope Foundation, the first commercial bank of South Korea. The Event was graced by Prof. Aruna Devi, Dean of Humanities, Prof. Imoba Singh, Head of Department Foreign Languages, Prof. Hyunkyung Lee, Korea Foundation visiting Professor to Manipur University. During the function, a total of 15 students from 3rd year 5th semester and 2nd year 3rd semester students of Korean language were selected based on their overall excellent performance in academics and were presented with a certificate of award of scholarship.
Shinhan Bank’s overseas scholarship project began in 1997 with the aim of providing learning opportunities and finding outstanding talent. Starting with China, scholarships are being provided in a total of seven countries including Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, India, Cambodia, Myanmar and Indonesia.
By 2020, Shinhan Bank has provided about 1.2 billion won to a total of 6,698 students. Korean Language students at Manipur University are the only reciepient of this scholarship every year among the Universities of India since 2020.
Korean Language at Manipur University introduced an undergraduate course in 2020 and shortly after in 2021, 5 Years integrated M.A. in Korean was introduced with about 80 students presently studying Korean as a major subject.
