Manipur University, 14/05/2022: The 3rd Korean Studies workshop for Indian Educators in Northeast India concludes successfully.
On the 13th and 14th of May, 2022, a workshop for Indian High school and Secondary School teachers was held at VC Court Hall, Manipur University.
The inauguration of the Workshop began with an introductory and welcome speech by Professor Hyun-Kyung Lee, Director of the workshop and KF visiting Professor to Manipur University. His Excellency Mr. Chang Jae-bok, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, gave a congratulatory speech highlighting the strong foothold of Korean influence in Northeast India. Professor N. Lokendra Singh, Honorable Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University addressed the event with congratulatory remarks highlighting that Manipur University is the only university in Northeast India that offers Korean language courses up to master’ level. Distinguished guests, Dr. Rangitabali Waikhom, Director of University & Higher Education, Govt. of Manipur and Mrs. Seonghee Ham, Chairman of Korean Association in North East India also graced the event. Prof. N Aruna Devi, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at Manipur University graced the occasion with a ‘Dean’s remarks. The Inauguration was concluded with a valedictory from Prof. S. Imoba Singh, Head of the Department of Foreign Languages.
The workshop was held in a blended mode online and offline. School Principals, Administrators, and Teachers from 5 out of 7 northeastern states totalling 100 participated in the event.
The workshop was conducted in five sessions. The themes of each session include; South Korea’s Political and Economic Development, the History of Korea and Indo-Korea relationship, Korean culture and tourism, Korean language education, development and use of teaching materials, and A case study of Korean Language classes across schools in Manipur that had already introduced the Korean language in their school curriculum. A renowned scholar Prof. Paik Woo-Yeol of Yonsei University - South Korea, Prof. Song Hwa Seob of Chung-ang University – South Korea, Diplomat Yeonsoo Kang – Secretary – Public Diplomacy – Embassy of Korea – India, and Prof. Vaishna Narang, Centre for Linguistics, Jawaharlal Nehru University – Delhi graced the event with valuable and insightful lectures.
Other presenters of the workshop were from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi University, Hyderabad Foreign Language University, Manipur University, KOTRA, King Sejong Institute, and Korea Tourism Organization.
