Established in 1989 as Audio Visual Research Center and upgraded to Educational Multimedia Research Center in 2004, the EMMRC, Manipur University is one among the Twenty two media center the University Grants Commission has established across the counter. The center enjoys the pride and privilege of being the only media center in the North-East India established by the UGC.
Primary objectives of the center are to produce educational television programmes and to encourage elearning in higher education by producing e-contents, LORs [Learning Object Repository] and through virtual classrooms conducted via satellite interactive networking facilities available at the center. We also produce syllabus-based video lecture programmes with multimedia inputs.
EMMRC is regularly engaged in producing syllabus-based and enrichment type of educational vedio progrmmes. The centre has produced 1000 programmes so far. These programmes are telecast through the national educational television channels live the Doordarshan, Gyandarshan and Vyas- the 24hr. herher Education channel of the UGC-CEC. Many programmes produced by the centre have received prestigious awards of national and international standing.
The centre conducts e-courses. One such programme was the e- by instructiocoures on Scriptwriting for Film and Television conducted frome the 7th August to the 21st September, 2006. The course was conducted using the 24hr. Higher Education Channel of the UGC-CEC and the EDUSAT Network with renowned resource persons taking online classes from Kolkata, Pune and Delhi. Many students participated in the course
e-Content is a technology-enhanced content enriched with multimedia inputs developed by instructional design experts. The center has started opening account with two numbers of e-contents , one on political scienceand another on zoology.
EMMRC has a rare collection of the award winning vedio programmes produced by the media centres of the UGC apart from our own programmes. We also have a good collected of nearly fifty documentary and feature films collected from around the world with the help of Somi Roy , a New York based film curator and cultural activist . Film screening and discussion sessions are organized.
The Miller of Haipi, a programme produced by this center has bagged the Best Programme Award on Environment and Development in the 19th UGC-CEC Educational Video Competition held in November, 2007 . The programme vividly captures the practice of natural water resource management as done in the senapati District of Manipur . Laishangbam Dhananjoy is the producer.
Kuki Marriage and When They Roar Like Lion , two vedio programmes produced by the centre have received Certificate of Honour in the international Festival of Film on Tribal Art & Culture held at Indore in Februray , 2008. Ngamjatong Guite and Alex leo pou are the Producers of the two programme respectively.
