Prof. Naorem Lokendra Singh, 11th Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University
Prof. N. Lokendra Singh assumed charge as the 11th Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University on 23 July 2021. An accomplished academician and seasoned administrator, he has held several key leadership positions throughout his distinguished career. Notably, in 2007, he was appointed the first Registrar of Manipur University following its conferment of Central University status in 2005.
With extensive experience in both academics and administration, Prof. N. Lokendra Singh has spearheaded significant institutional developments. He has been instrumental in the successful implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels from the academic session 2021–2022. Under his leadership, Manipur University has expanded its academic collaborations with reputed international, national, and regional institutions, with a focus on sustainability, empowerment, efficiency, employability, and enhanced research collaboration.
Academic Background
Prof. N. Lokendra Singh is an alumnus of India’s Institutions of Eminence, the University of Delhi and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). He earned his B.A. (Hons.) in History from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi, and his M.A. in History from the Centre for Historical Studies, JNU. He completed his M.Phil. from the University of Delhi and obtained his Ph.D. in Modern Indian History from Manipur University.
International Exposure & Leadership
In 2024, Prof. N. Lokendra Singh participated in the Korea Foundation–sponsored Distinguished Visitor Programme, visiting six higher education institutions in Seoul, South Korea. He currently serves as a Member of the National Medical Council and as an Executive Member of the UGC-INFLIBNET Committee, in addition to holding memberships in several national and regional academic and professional bodies.
Prof. N. Lokendra Singh has successfully guided 14 Ph.D. scholars in History.
Recent Significant Achievements
Delivered a lecture on Academic Bank of Credit, NCrF & APAAR at the National Summit for Institutional Leaders (NSIL–2024), University of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh (18 February 2024).
Chaired a session on “Transforming Our Campuses as Sustainable & Vibrant” at NSIL–2025, Doon University, Dehradun (1 March 2025).
