The Department of Foresty & Environmental Science is herby bifurcated into two Departments viz., (1) Department of Forestry and (2) Department of Environmental Science w.e.f. 07.02.2024

Department of Forestry & Environmental Science has been one of the leading departments of the discipline in the North-East India since 2013. Our vision is to establish as a world-class education and research center in the region catering to the need of the forest resources and environmental issues, for long-term ecological stability, sustainable development and economic security through their conservation and scientific management. Our mission is to train and empower students to cope with the emerging global environmental challenges and bring out the qualified professionals for conservation and sustainable management of forest resources, by instilling in them a life-long passion for learning and participating in mitigating global environmental problems by acting at different levels of the society.

The Department is committed and striving to fulfill the following objectives-

  1. To augment the academic capacity of the M.Sc. Courses offered in the Department to fulfill the aspiration of the graduate students interested in the related field for a career.

  2. To enhance the inter-institutional collaboration for the students-exchange program and research collaboration at the national and international level.

  3. To conduct the primary research related to forestry, biodiversity, ecology, wildlife, hydrology, environmental impact assessment, green economy, and threat, related to climate change.

  4. To conduct interdisciplinary research for conservation of the biodiversity and environmental restoration of the Indo-Myanmar biodiversity hotspot region.

  5. To establish a center of research-related network projects falling under the interest of the government of Manipur and India.

  6. To coordinate with strategic oriented group (with particular focus on North-East India) that contributes to developing environmentally sustainable responses to current environmental issues and problems through practice-based training, an integrated and focused research program to ensure expertise and technical knowledge to students and researchers and common person.

  7. To incubate the startups and entrepreneurs interested in working in the field related to forest, environment, and climate change.
