Department of Forestry is a newly constituted department w.e.f. 7th February 2024. Our vision is to provide academic and scientific support to the people of the region by following world-class standards for long-term ecological stability, sustainable development, and climate-resilient economy, as well as conserving and managing forest resources through scientific efforts.
Our mission is to train and empower students and researchers to cope with the emerging global environmental challenges and bring out the qualified professionals for conservation and sustainable management of forest resources by instilling in them a lifelong passion for learning and participating in mitigating global environmental problems by acting at different levels of the society.
The Department is committed and striving to fulfil the following objectives-
To augment the academic capacity of the M.Sc./Ph.D. courses offered in the Department to fulfil the aspiration of the people interested in the related field for a career.
To enhance the inter-institutional collaboration for the student exchange program and research collaboration at the national and international levels.
To conduct primary research on forestry, biodiversity, ecology, wildlife, hydrology, environmental impact assessment, green economy, and threats related to climate change.
To conduct interdisciplinary research to conserve the biodiversity and environmental restoration of the Indo-Myanmar biodiversity hotspot region.
To establish a centre of research-related network projects falling under the interest of the government of Manipur and India.
To coordinate with a strategically oriented group (with a particular focus on North-East India) that contributes to developing environmentally sustainable responses to current environmental issues and problems through practice-based training, an integrated and focused research program to ensure expertise and technical knowledge to students, researchers, and common person.
To incubate the startups and entrepreneurs interested in working in the field related to forest, environment, and climate change.
