The Department of Sociology
The Department of Sociology was established in the year 2012, two-year Master's degree programme and PhD programme started in the academic session 2013-14, presently it has an intake capacity of forty-four students per semester. Of late, the department has also introduced Ph.D. programme and many scholars are pursuing their doctoral degrees. With a wide spectrum of courses spread over four semesters M.A. Programme in Sociology aims at imparting core sociological concepts, theory, and methods to students to strengthen their sociological imagination and make them socially aware and socio-politically active citizens who can comprehend the social climate and successfully tackle the current situation.
The Department has been organizing 'Occasional Sociological Lecture Series' on sociologically relevant issues and other interdisciplinary topics. The department is also holding 'Monthly Lecture Series' on current issues by collaborating with the Manipur Sociological Society. Faculty members are committed to organising national seminars/conferences and undertake projects, pilot studies, etc. which will give impetus to the department's vision of becoming the flagship centre of fundamental as well as policy research in social sciences.
